Well, were sorry to say, its been a year since our last news update and a lot has happened in that time. Some good, some bad, some bizarre. People have moved, taken new jobs, had surgery, found love, been fired, been swindled, lost their minds and found them again. We have made new friends, new partners and new aspirations. Projects have come and gone, some good, some bad. And although Siren has been placed on the back burner a few times it has never been far from our hearts. So, without further ado
The News:
We began work on what was supposed to be Episode 13 at the end of 2001. However, one episode simply couldnt contain the story and it ballooned to two and then to three episodes. The shoot as always was a blast but when the first cut was finished it was obvious that something was wrong and that reshoots would be necessary, but by the time we were ready, the location we were going to use had been sold. We scrambled, found a new location and went back into production.
However, before we could finish post production on 13-15, a new opportunity came along. Randy Fenton, president and founder of DareToPlay, saw an article about Siren in the Hollywood Reporter and contacted us. Randy has developed a system for creating interactive web based story telling. He had the technology, all he needed were characters to build the adventure around. Siren, was a perfect fit. After several meetings, we came up with a game plan for creating an interactive adventure based on the Siren series.
Operation: Siren, turned out to be a much more complex project than anyone could have predicted. The filmmaking alone was difficult enough. With, half a dozen possible endings and a myriad of paths through the adventure. It was like shooting a score of Siren episodes simultaneously. Add to this, the complex interactive elements and you have a project that kept both the Siren and DareToPlay teams up well past their bedtimes.
However, all the hard work paid off when Operation:Siren was accepted into the 2003 Sundance Online Film Festival. There was a palpable buzz in the air when the Siren Family arrived in Park City surrounded almost immediately by crowds, reporters and autograph hounds. It didnt matter to us that they were all trying to catch a glimpse of Ben and JLo. Sundance was an incredible experience: wild, intense and inspiring. We met great people, saw great movies and even managed to catch a few hours of sleep between parties. Click this link if you want a Behind the Scenes Peak at the Siren Sundance Experience.
However, after a few months of recovery, it was time to get back to work on the Siren series. We released Episode 13 last month and Episode 14: Wolves in the Fold, is now available for download with episode 15 to follow soon.
Whats in the future for Siren? More, episodes? A feature? A DVD? More interactive adventures? Youll just have to wait and find out.
